Data supporting the paper “The dynamics of suspended sediment in a typical Alpine river reach: insight from a seasonal survey”.

These data were obtained during a field campaign performed on a typical Alpine river reach from the French Alps, La Séveraisse. During this campaign, we monitored the suspended load coming in the studied reach (upstream station location: Lat 44.819507°, Long 6.187550°) and exiting that reach (downstream station location: Lat 44.824502°, Long 6.149043°). Suspended fluxes were measured using gauging stations (continuous water level sensors, 10min frequency + gauging) and continuous turbidity sensors (10min frequency) coupled with automatic sequential samplers. Local river bed stocks measurements were also performed at the start of the field campaign and bedload measurements were performed at the downstream station on a nearly daily basis. This dataset comprises : - The local river bed stock measurements for each facies and surface/subsurface layers. The fraction of area occupied by each facies (image classification) is specified. - The downstream bedload measurements with the corresponding flow rates and the date of sampling. - The event-based data used to analyze the reach budget including (median values obtained from the Monte Carlo simulations): o The date of downstream peak o the downstream mass transported as suspension o the upstream mass transported as suspension o the mass difference (downstream-upstream) o the mass ratio (downstream over upstream) o the relative mass ratio (downstream-upstream relative to the upstream mass) o the result from the test of mass difference significance (YES= mass difference distributions are significantly different from 0) o the event average downstream flow rate o the event maximum downstream flow rate o the event average upstream suspended sediment concentration - 2h average values used to study how the different parameters control the reach budget dynamics: o The date o The 2h-average mass ratio (downstream over upstream) o The 2h-average normalized downstream flow rate (downstream flow rate over equilibrium flow rate (which is a function of time during the campaign)) o The 2h-average upstream suspended sediment concentratio
